Laptop Requirements

Certified students have been expected to bring laptop PCs to classes beginning spring semester 2007.

These are the minimum recommendation for laptops as of March 2008, updated November 2009.

  • Operating System

    • Windows XP Professional SP2 or newer (XP Tablet PC Edition is allowed with SP2 installed)
    • Windows Vista Ultimate or Business
    • Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional
  • Processor Architecture

    • Intel® Pentium™, Intel® Xeon™, Intel® Core™, AMD® Athlon™, AMD® Opteron™, or AMD® Turion™
  • Processor Speed

    • 1.6 GHz
  • Memory

    • 512 MB RAM (Capability to upgrade to 2.0 GB RAM recommended)
  • Hard drive

    • 60 GB
  • Graphics Card

  • Optical Storage Drive

    • CD-ROM 24x (CDRW Recommended for Data Backup)
  • Network Card

  • Software

    • Microsoft Office 2007 Standard (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) WSU provides a method for students to purchase Microsoft Office Standard for $67.00 + S&H and TAX. Use the “Tech Tools” link on your “MyWSU” web portal to order through e-academy.
    • Virus protection software required and provided free by WSU.
      Go to get virus protection from WSU.
    • Most courses that will require student purchased software will include the software with the textbook purchased at the book store.
    • Some courses will have WSU provided software available for students to install as needed for courses.
